The month long theme for March is "Reading Takes You on Adventures". Grade levels will be paired up with each other to compete in a "Iditaread" challenge, with a goal to read 1,100 books or chapters.

Have a great summer!

NBCS has 3 year old preschool openings for September.  Please call 487-2211 to inquire.

We celebrated our sixth graders in a non-traditional way this year with connected learning. We wish our sixth grade class luck and know they are ready to succeed at Mountain View Middle School. We will miss you in our hallways and our classrooms, but you are off to new places and amazing things. Check out our virtual event page: https://nbcsdistantlearning.weebly.com/nbcs-virtual-promotion.html

Our readiness, first and second grade students are about to begin an Artist Residency with Cynthia Robinson, a Natural Playground artist. She has presented us with a material list with the hopes that we can collect these materials and have them available for the residency, which begins on May 4.

The list of items includes - pine cones, small rocks, bark, acorns and many other things found in your yard.  Please see the attachment below if you are interested in making a donation.

In order to accommodate for the significant snow days this school year, the NBCS calendar will change as follows:

  • Beginning Monday, May 1, 2017 and continuing through the rest of the school year, thirty minutes will be added to each school day.  This means that the doors will now open at 7:30 and school will officially begin at 7:45.  At the end of the day, walkers will be dismissed at 2:25 and bus students will be dismissed at 2:30.
  • The last day of school (1/2 day) is now Tuesday, June 20, 2017.

Please read the attached announcement from Superintendent Balke for further information regarding changes to the school day and calendar.

  • June 20 is the last day of school.  It will be an early release at noon.
  • The school-wide Awards Ceremony will be on Friday, June 16th at 8:30 am
  • The 6th Grade Promotional Exercises will also be Friday, June 16th at 5:00 pm.
  • The 6th Grade will be going to the Friendly Beaver Campground for the day on Monday, June 19th which will be their last day of school.

The students are all excited that the snow came early this year!   Below is a list of NBCS winter playground rules.  Reinforcement of these rules at home with your child/ children is greatly appreciated.  Also, we are experiencing a great deal of lost snow gear.  It is very helpful if you put your child's name in anything that comes to school.

Winter/Snow Playground rules

All students must have proper winter clothing (boots, snow pants) to play in the snow.  Otherwise, they need to remain on the pavement.

All students may sled on the “big hill.”  Please wait until the person in front of you is at the bottom of the hill and out of his/her sled.  One person to a sled and you must sled feet first.  Sledding may be canceled by duty teachers if grass is showing, too icy or other reasons.

Return all sleds to the designated area at the end of recess.

Fairy village and big slide are closed during the snowy months.

All students may use other playground equipment (with proper snow gear), including “big toy.”

Students may play football or other games on the pavement.  However, duty teachers may limit a game to certain areas to avoid congestion or cancel games due to conditions on the pavement.

During kicking games, please keep the ball on the ground.  This means no “drop-kicks or punts.”

Students may build snow forts in the garden area.

Students in grades 3-6 may throw snowballs at targets on wall ball wall during lunch recess ONLY, not at morning recess.

Wall ball is cancelled for grades R-2 during the snowy season.  Older grades may use discretion if the area is too snowy or slippery.

If the basketball court is clear of ice and snow, duty teachers may use discretion to allow students to climb over snow banking.
